A playable rhythm machine in the browser. Finished enough to release; alive enough to keep changing.

I make websites, companies, images, music and films. I’m a father before any of those things.

The tools changed. The need to make things never did.
GeoCities, AOL Homesites, Web Studio, WordPress, Webydo, Canva, code—and whatever comes next. Nearly forty years of electronic music and thirty years of websites sit behind the work on this page.

My word for using the tools available now to turn a burst of energy into something real. An idea does not need a grand theory; it needs attention, judgment and enough momentum to cross the line.
Build, check, revise, ship.
One image / every day
I began Knots Make the Oak Strong around 2012. In 2021 I returned to it and fixed the visitor badge into the canvas.
I look at it every day. What happened is not hidden. It became part of the picture—and the tree is still standing.

02 / The long line
Not a résumé. The parts that explain the work.
1980s
Electronic music and noise made at home: machines, tape, repetition and the pleasure of finding a sound by accident.
1996
The first sites were made on GeoCities. Then came AOL Homesites, Web Studio, WordPress, Webydo and hundreds of websites for clients, companies and ideas of my own.
Early web years
MedicalAlert.com and MedicalAlarm.com helped establish Connect America, alongside roughly one hundred dealer sites—including an early MedicalGuardian.com.
After the exit
I stepped away from the companies to focus on fatherhood. I stayed active through not-for-profit work, music, film, images and the web.
Graphic design
Client graphics, film art, posters, identities, experiments and discarded directions. Creating for the sake of creating was never time wasted.
Now
A burst of energy becomes a working product: make it while the idea is alive, test it honestly, revise it and get it out into the world.
03 / Images
Cities, weather, insects, diagrams, strange jokes and uneasy little worlds. Not a moodboard—the work itself.
Original art archive

04 / Logic by Machine
I make the music, then edit it against film from the Prelinger Archives and images of my own. I use the archive for research, filmmaking and because I still enjoy getting lost in it.

@ciaranroche on BlueskyArchive, revise, evolve — don’t erase!
Logic by Machine: a live improvisation for three synthesisers, performed against a vintage Shipping Forecast recording. One continuous take. No DAW, overdubs or editing.
Logic by Machine is a name I took over 15 years ago from a 1962 public-television film about computers and the human mind. Today: 3 synths, 1 human, 1 live take, no DAW.
06 / A little context
Born in Dublin, shaped by Ballymun and long based in Philadelphia.
I have been building websites since 1996 and making electronic music since the 1980s. I have built companies, owned and developed domain names, worked across web and graphic design for decades, made films and images, and kept a parallel life in not-for-profit projects.
I exited companies to focus on fatherhood. The work continued because creating has always been the way I understand things. Today, the newest tools are helping more of those ideas become real than they have in a long time.
